What to Expect on Sunday Morning
Planning on joining us for worship? Great! Here are some things you can expect during a typical Sunday morning worship service.
We believe that worship is not only about music, but that the entire service is an act of worship. Singing praises to our Lord Jesus, giving back to Him during the offering time, the reading of Scripture, and the preaching of the Word are are vital parts of our Sunday mornings together at Grace.
Preaching the Word
Sermons are typically about 40-45 minutes in length and expositional in nature. Most often we are working our way through individual books of the Bible. Occasionally, we will break from a book series to deal with a thematic issue based on Scripture such as marriage or parenting.
We have Bibles available in each pew, and we encourage you to bring your own Bible to the service as we examine the Word together. If you need a Bible, take one of ours home with you! We typically preach from the English Standard Version and provide these in the pews, but we do not exclusively use the ESV in our teaching.
While we would likely be categorized as having a ‘contemporary’ worship style, we believe the most important thing about what we sing is what we say. Our worship leaders choose songs that are saturated with Scripture and we sing a variety of new songs and classic favorites.Whether old or new, we aim for the content and truth of our songs to take precedent over style and popularity.
After the service, many people stick around to participate in different Enrichment Hour classes – what some churches refer to as Adult Sunday School. Children’s classes and childcare is provided during this time, and adults have a variety of classes to choose from. We rotate through our classes on a regular basis, and we will typically have one class focused on an aspect of Christian living while another studies a book of the Bible.
Our body is made up of a broad range of people from different stages of life. You will find families, empty-nesters, college singles, retirees, and young people all worshiping together. We feel that it is important for those of different generations to worship and grow together.
We also strive to be a family-friendly church. We want you to feel comfortable having your children participate in the worship service. While we have many great childcare and children’s church options, we encourage parents to have their kids join you for all or part of the worship service.
We offer nursery and preschool ministry for children ages 0 – 5 in our children’s wing of the church. We encourage children ages 3+ to join us in worship before being dismissed to Children’s Church during the sermon. Your child will be greeted by their teacher at the back of the worship center when they are dismissed. More on our children’s ministry and childcare options.
We want to be a place where believers can come to grow both spiritually and relationally. We cannot live the Christian life as described in Scripture on our own; we were created to be in community with other believers.
Those who attend Grace are encouraged to participate in Bible studies and Life Groups (our small group ministry). Here we get an opportunity to truly live out our Christian life with other believers and faithfully observe all of the “one anothers” of Scripture.
In between the worship service and our Enrichment Hour classes we provide juice, coffee, and doughnuts in the Fellowship Hall.
